Last week I did something that I haven't done in the past three and a half years of sending these value-based emails to my audience - and I felt sick....
You see I write these emails to help business owners just like you every single week.
I don't have a huge stock of pre-written content that is "locked and loaded."
So every week I write the content to share and then set it to be sent on Friday at 8am (I am writing this email on Wednesday at 11.15am).
But if you opened the email last week you would have seen that it was sent at around 10am - not the planned 8am delivery....
And I was so upset with myself for not setting the time to the normal 8am.
But the thing was - the open rate was as high as normal (just north of 55%).
Wow.
And I thank you for that.
But why am I able to get such a significant open rate? Even when I cock it up...
I think it comes down to one word.
Probably the most important word in successful businesses.
Rhythm.
You see, I truly think that the reason so many high performing entrepreneurs like you open this email every Friday at 8am is that I send it to you rhythmically every Friday at 8am.
And therefore you are used to receiving it.
And the fact that I try to offer value to you each and every week - no sales pitch - just the occasional offer of additional help - means that you are probably more engaged than with some of the other hundreds of emails you receive every week.
I joke with my private clients that I want them to assume their audience is sat down with a cup of tea and a Rich Tea biscuit whilst they wait for their email to land at the same time each week.
(I know they aren't by the way, but humour me....)
So what does this mean for your business?
If you are sending emails to your list of contacts - follow these simple rules to see greater engagement.
- Be rhythmic in when you send. Same day and time every week
- Offer value to your audience consistently - help people
- Only occasionally ask them to do things (book a call, complete a survey etc) - send six value emails for instance before asking for something
Remember that having rhythm is great for you in your business, but also great to share with your prospects and customers.
