Normally I write these emails early on the Friday that you receive them however today I admit that this was written last Monday - hours after England lost out to Spain at the Euros.
Now don't worry - this is not an email about football per se.
But it did get me thinking about how we treat our people.
You see, the past month has seen a lot of praise and vitriol, targeted towards the leader of that group of "workers" - the manager, Gareth Southgate.
And this is at a time where the previous best dressed waistcoat wearer is coming to the end of his current contract.
So what should he do?
As The Clash wrote, "Should I Stay or Should I Go?"
Gareth has achieved things that many of his predecessors haven't. Given us hope, brought on youth for the future and this tells me one thing.
He has a plan.
A plan that is not just about the 90 minutes in front of him, but longer term.
You can imagine that if he stays, he already has a good idea of the majority of this squad for the World Cup in the US in two years time.
And this to me, is like many successful business owners, where their ability to deliver comes down to that one thing - having a plan.
So what's your plan?
Are you already looking at the next two years?
If not, why not?
Speak soon,
James
