Every week I drop a little note into your inbox with a view to try and help you to look into your business and yourself and gain greater clarity on being better and potentially growing your business.
And something happened this week that has made me reassess a lot of what I think.
I apologise for the somewhat downbeat nature of this email but the contents are really important.
You see last week I was informed that one of our past clients, Terry Connor, had unfortunately and unexpectedly passed away.
He ran a cleaning business, had around 20 members of staff and his business was "okay."
He had recently married his childhood sweetheart (a long story) and had two teenage children.
It seems strange writing "he had" by the way.
And he lived to work.
Now his family will keep the business going, and I am sure that life insurance will cover the liabilities he personally had but that isn't going to change one big thing.....
He didn't get to do the things that he really wanted to.
I know he loved beach holidays but hadn't ever been to the Maldives with his family (whilst he could afford the money he couldn't "spare" the time)
He always wanted a Range Rover (I don't remember the reason) but drove a Kia Sportage.
He loved the idea of a Savile Row suit but spent money on high street clothes.
He always spoke about his two children going to university and how proud he would be to see them in gowns and mortar boards.
And that's the point.
He no longer had the chance to fulfil the things he wanted.
So whilst this email is a little maudlin and sad I want you to think hard about your life - for once more than your business.
What is stopping you getting to do the things that you want to?
Life is short. Too short for many.
Focus on what you want to do and find the way to do them.
You can earn the money to pay for them.
You can find the time to do them.
Speak soon,
James
