Following on from last week's note about not selling in EVERY email, I thought I'd share with you the simple steps to getting your emails opened...
You see, not everyone will open your emails - heck, if you are reading this, you are one of about 50% of those who I send to every single Friday morning...and 50% is quite good!
But I don't get hung up on the stats too much - it is all about the three steps to getting your emails opened.
- Send from a "known" email name
- This is about using a name that resonates with you as this is the first thing people see with their emails. And we all purge the same way - do we know them? Yes - move forward one space. No - delete. So don't be sending from Office@yourcompany or something similar - be you.
- Make the subject line a little intriguing
- As long as there is a connection between the subject line and the content you are fine - but you cannot honestly tell me that when this email landed from "William & Jim" with the subject line "Size Doesn't Matter...I Know!!" - you weren't just a little curious, and wanted to know what we were talking about?
- Ensure quality in the first 1-2 paragraphs
- Now as we mentioned in last weeks' email, our aim is only to send you something to try, buy or engage with when we feel it is appropriate - but with all of our emails, our goal is for you to not only open them, but to read them and where necessary - take action. That is why we try to make the first couple of paragraphs hook you in to reading further down to the "good stuff."
Simple really.
And it is true - it is not about size...
It's just about being recognised, creating intrigue and then providing good quality content.
So check how and what you are sending.
Speak soon!
