It might sound a little strange, however I took the day off last week as my youngest daughter had an "inset" day (for about the 100th time this year it feels!!) and took her to Alton Towers.
You see, in my youth, I loved queuing for hours for the 2-3 minutes of exhileration being thrown around, this way and that...
...only to need to go back and collect my stomach which I clearly left up on the last big drop!
But now, as I have gotten older, I have started to think more about my own health, safety, and mortality.
I want to take less risks.
I want a steadier pace of life.
I want a simpler, more consistent day-to-day.
And this got me to thinking about business owners like you and I.
You see, as I stood at the bottom of the new Nemesis ride, I thought about the exhileration that I felt looking at what was going to happen.
The feelings I wold have as I flew through the air at 60+mph.
How it would feel great to be carefree, knowing that everything was controlled chaos...but I would be safe.
As I stood on the ground looking up at the ride, I could see what I thought the next few minutes would look, and feel like - very much like looking at how my business was going to move through the next few weeks and months.
But once I got on it, I wasn't in control any more.
I went this way. Then that way.
I knew I would be okay in the end.
But I had no control.
Much like many business owners - who jump on the rollercoaster of starting and running a business and let someone else control what happens.
Normally this is the fact that prospects (those who haven't made the move to buy from you yet) are the ones most in control.
We know that running a business of whatever size can be a rollercoaster - but we need to take control, have a strategy and then execute this with care.
I've had my time on rollercoasters, both actual ones and seeing clients run their businesses like they are on one.
If you want help trying to grab hold of the runaway train and to start building a strategy to remove the huge ups and downs, then drop me a line.
For now, I'm going back to the dodgems - where I know I have some degree of control!
Speak soon,
James
